Strawberry Danishes Recipe - Anikafitforlife Version

2:15 PM

Whenever I head to a bakery, my favorite pastry to get is always the strawberry danish.  They are so delicious, but they're also notorious for being one of the most fatty, calorie filled desserts.  As the first Food Friday post, I want to blow you guys out of the water with some of the creative recipes you have coming your way.  It only made sense to turn one of the fattiest, most calorie filled desserts into a light version that you can indulge in without the guilt.

Ingredients
1 can Reduced Fat Crescent Rolls
4 oz. Fat Free Cream Cheese
1/2 tsp. Stevia
1 tbsp. Lemon Juice
8 tbsp. All Natural Strawberry Preserves Sweetened with Stevia
3 tbsp. Unsweetened Almond Milk
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 tsp. Cardamom
1/4 tsp. Stevia

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
2. In a bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, 1/2 tsp. Stevia, and lemon juice together until smooth.
3. Roll out the crescent rolls on a piece of floured parchment paper. (This will keep the dough from sticking.)
4. Pinch together the seams to create four separate rectangles.  Stretch them out a little bit, by about 1/2 inch or 1 cm.  Place one on the parchment paper, and place the other three in the fridge to chill until you are ready for them.  (It is important to leave the dough chilled, or it will stick and be impossible to work with.)
5. Spread 1/2 tablespoon strawberry preserves on each rectangle, followed by 1 to 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture.
6. Roll up the rectangle, starting from the long side.  Pinch together the seam and the ends to keep the filling from spilling out during the baking process.  Stretch the roll another 2 inches.
7. Cut the roll in half and seal the ends.  Stretch each half another inch or so.
8. Twist each half into a roll and place on an ungreased baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  Place each danish about an inch or two away from each other.
9. Press an indentation into the center of the danish using your thumb.
10. In a small bowl, combine the almond milk, cardamom, cinnamon, and 1/4 tsp. of stevia together into a thin paste.  Drizzle equal parts of the mixture over each danish.
11. Place 1/2 tablespoon of strawberry preserves into the indentation of each danish.
12. Bake the danishes at 350°F for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
